Troy Benham: The Urban Amish

Contestant Troy Benham was sick of living in an Amish Paradise in Wisconsin, so he decided it would be a good idea to audition for Idol.

Troy has never seen American Idol, because he doesn't own a TV. Can you guess where this is going?!

Troy delivered on disappointment with a truly bizarre performance of some old crazy Amish song about spitting in people's faces and making fun of them. I am confused.

Simon's comment said it all: "What the HELL was that?!"

Comments:
I Know the guy, he can sing wonderfully. He was was joking with you guys

The song that Troy Benham sung was not a crazy old Amish song. It is called, "You Can Be Mean To Me" and was written and recorded by Heywood Banks, and appears on his "Big Butter" album.

Banks said in a radio interview that he received $2500 for the use of the song on idol. It's hard to be sure if he was serious, though, as he is a satyrical comedian. His website is www.comedyhome.com. He sells his albums, as well as other comedian's works.

By the way, Heywood may feel liabled at his song being called "Amish," though he'd probably be cool with "crazy" or "old." But, you never know. You may want to get your checkbook out, just in case...
